MONTEVIDEO, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- The press in
Uruguay, which has just hosted China's top legislator Wu Bangguo, are optimistic
about the prospects of trade relations between the two countries.
El Pais, a daily newspaper with the biggest
circulation in the country, Tuesday ran a headline reading "Negotiation" on the
front-page with a photograph of Wu. It said that Wu's meeting with Uruguay's
President, Tabare Vazquez, and Vice President Rodolfo Nin Novoa had "put a foot
on the accelerator" of the countries' trade relations.
"Firing a China trade agreement" was Ultimas Nocias's
headline, illustrated with Wu bestride a cannon from the 19th century, when
Uruguay was a Spanish colony. La Republica headlined with a comment that Wu is
interested in boosting trade with Uruguay.
El Observador reported that Vazquez is seeking more
Chinese trade and tourists, and referred to the hope that Uruguay will become an
official Chinese tourist destination.
Wu arrived in Uruguay on Sunday from Brazil, his
first stop in the South American tour. He flew to Chile on Tuesday, the last
stop on this tour. Enditem
