Special report: Israel, Lebanon agree on ceasefire
MOSCOW, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- Russia will actively assist in implementing the UN Resolution 1701 that ended the fighting between Israel and the Hezbollah militant group, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Mikhail Kamynin said here on Monday.
Russia had made hard efforts to seek the adoption of the resolution and it is going to actively assist in the implementation of the UN decision, Kamynin was quoted by the Interfax news agency as saying.
Speaking of the visit of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrovto the Middle East, Kamynin said, the visit will focus on the discussion of the situation in Lebanon and Israel.
Due attention will be given to the process of peacekeeping operation in south Lebanon, the deployment of Lebanese troops and the reinforced contingent of United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, he said.
The agenda also includes implementation of such provisions in the resolution as withdrawal of Israeli troops behind the 'blue line', Kamynin said. Enditem
