KABUL, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- More than 84 percent of
the persons killed by suicide bombers are civilians this year throughout
Afghanistan, according to statistics released by the U.S.-led coalition forces
on Sunday.
Up to Aug. 12, 105 out of the 124 persons killed by
suicide bombings in this volatile country were civilians, the statistics said.
The other victims are five coalition soldiers and 14
Afghan troops and police.
"These suicide bombers place no value on human life
and continue to threaten the safety of the Afghan people," said Col. Thomas
Collins, a coalition spokesman.
"Nowhere in the Koran does it say the killing of
innocent civilians is justified," he added.
Due to inferiority in weapons and military tactics,
desperate insurgents in this country often carry out suicide bombing attacks to
attack foreign and government troops as well as Afghan police.
Afghanistan is suffering from a rise of
Taliban-linked violence and bloodshed this year, during which more than 2,100
