MEXICO CITY, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- Mexican presidential candidate Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador on Friday asked the Mexican army not to repress his movement and reiterated that he is launching a "peaceful" struggle.

    In a speech made before thousands of followers in Mexico City's Zocalo on the same day when outgoing President Vicente Fox will make his last state-of-the-nation address, Obrador asked the military not to repeat what happened on Oct. 2, 1968, when the federal government ordered the army to massacre hundreds of students.

    Riot police and towering steel barriers sealed off the Mexican Congress Friday as leftist lawmakers pledged to block President Vicente Fox from delivering his last state-of-the-nation address. Enditem
