BEIRUT, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese President Emile Lahoud on Friday called for an international conference on Mideast issues.
Lahoud told a Russian television channel in an interview that there was a chance for the convening of an international conference similar to the Madrid one grouping all concerned parties to seek a just and comprehensive settlement to issues of Lebanon, Palestine, Iraq and Syria.
"The only way to achieve peace in the Middle East would be through implementation of UN Security Council Resolutions 194, 242, 338 and 425," he said.
He said that Israel had a chance to know that it could not solve problems by force, while calling on Russia to work toward the convening of such a conference. Enditem
