WASHINGTON, Sept. 1 (Xinhua)-- U.S. President George W. Bush and Jordan's King Abdullah II on Friday exchanged views over Middle East issues by telephone, the White House said.

"The president spoke to King Abdullah of Jordan today about events in the Middle East," said national security spokeswoman Kate Starr.

"They discussed Lebanon, Israeli-Palestinian affairs, the situation in Iraq and Iran's activities. The president asked the king to remain in close touch with him in the coming weeks," said Starr.

Details of the telephone talks were not available.

Jordan, one of U.S. allies in the Middle East, has been playing important role in the Middle East peace process. Enditem
