Special Report: Wu Bangguo visits Brazil, Uruguay and Chile
RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- Brazilian-Chinese cooperation will make a contribution to the whole world and Chinese top legislator Wu Bangguo's visit to Brazil is significant to the promotion of bilateral ties between the two countries, said President of Brazilian lower Chamber of Deputies Aldo Rebelo on Thursday.
He made the remarks during Wu's visit to the Brazilian parliament, saying he expected comprehensive cooperation between the two countries at all levels.
Wu, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China, is paying an official visit to the south American country.
Nowadays, bilateral cooperation as well as multilateral cooperation cannot be restricted to the diplomatic field, he said, adding that such cooperation should cover both material and spiritual life and be extended to all areas such as science, commerce and culture.
Wu's visit is significant to the promotion of bilateral ties as it helps the two countries' parliaments keep in constant touch for better exchanges of important political information.
Rebelo praised China's anti-poverty contribution to the whole world, describing China as a shining example of social progress, as no other societies in the world had pulled such a significant part of the population out of poverty.
He highlighted China's important achievements in the scientific and technological fields, such as the first Chinese astronaut. Buthe said the country had done this without losing its characteristics of civilization and without devaluating or underestimating the efforts made by Chinese predecessors to achieve China's independence and unity.
The parliament leader also stressed China's anti-unilateralism efforts. He said China, with its significant dimension, population and economy, was an important factor in the maintenance of the geopolitical equilibrium and of equality among nations. Enditem
