>>> | BAGHDAD, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- The death toll in a
series of bombings, including one at a popular market, in eastern Baghdad on
Thursday rose to 43, an Interior Ministry source told Xinhua. A total of 160
people were wounded in the attacks.
A car bomb ripped through a market in al-Ameen
district in eastern Baghdad shortly after 7:00 p.m. (1500 GMT), the source said
on condition of anonymity, adding several shops and cars were also damaged.
Within minutes, another car bomb hit al-Baladeat
district and two mortar rounds hit buildings in al-Qahera district, the source
said, adding a roadside bomb detonated in another neighborhood in eastern
Baghdad.
Earlier, the source said that three bombings rocked
two districts in eastern Baghdad, leaving 19 people dead and 68 wounded.
The deadly attacks came one day after a wave of
violence across Iraq killed at least 38 people and wounded more than 80 others.
The surging violence in Baghdad and other cities is seen as a major setback for
the government's efforts to restore calm. Enditem

BEIJING, Aug. 30 (Xinhuanet) -- A string of bombings
killed over 40 people, and wounded more than 100 others in Iraq on Wednesday
morning, according to media reports.
Bombing attacks targeted a market, an army recruiting
center and a police patrol respectively.
In central Baghdad, at least 24 Iraqis were killed
and 45 more were wounded in the attack on the Shorja wholesale market, police
said.
An hour later, a car bomb exploded near a busy fuel
station in the nearby Karrada district, Baghdad, killing two and wounding 21
others, including five police officers, emergency officials said.
Another bomb in the same area near Andalus Square
detonated minutes later as rescue workers arrived to assist the wounded. Full story>>
Bush vows U.S. not to leave Iraq before "job" is
done
WASHINGTON, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) --
U.S. President George W. Bush said Thursday that U.S. troops will not leave Iraq
until the "job" is done in the Middle East country.
"The war we fight today is more than a military
conflict," Bush said at the annual national convention of the American Legion, a
