Sepcial Report:Tension
accelerates in Iraq
BAGHDAD, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- A
roadside bomb went off near a convoy of sport utility vehicles (SUV), usually
used by western foreigners, wounding at least two persons, an Interior Ministry
source told Xinhua.
"A roadside bomb detonated near a convoy of SUVs in
the 14th Ramadan Street in Mansur neighborhood, leaving two vehicles ablaze and
at least two wounded," the source said on condition of anonymity.
The U.S. troops backed by two helicopters immediately
cordoned off the scene, preventing the Iraqi police from approaching the area,
he said.
However, the police said they saw two vehicles caught
fire and two wounded people were being evacuated before they were ordered to
leave the scene.
Earlier, a ministry source said that a parking car
bomb near a petrol station in eastern Baghdad went off around midday near a
passing police patrol on the Qanat Street, killing at least two people and
wounding nine others.
The blast came a day after deadly attacks in Baghdad
that killed dozens of Iraqis and wounding others. Enditem
