Special report: Wu Bangguo visits Brazil, Uruguay and Chile

    BRASILIA, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- China's successful development model can be an example to South American countries, said Argemiro Procopio, professor of international relations at the University of Brasilia, on Wednesday.

    China, a country with a cohesive and effective legal system anda well-organized Communist Party, can be a good mirror for us, said the professor in an interview with Xinhua on the occasion of the visit by China's top legislator Wu Bangguo to Brazil.

    The achievements that China has made can inspire Latin American countries to follow the example, the professor said.

    Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress, arrived in the Brazilian capital of Brasilia on Tuesday for a four-day official visit aimed at consolidating bilateral relations.

    The strategic alliance of the two countries, established in 2004, is very positive to Brazil and needs to be extended to the fields of technology, military and culture, Procopio said, adding that there is still a lot to do regarding bilateral cooperation.

    Procopio, who has visited China several times, is the author ofthe book "In the eye of the eagle", in which he analyzes how China's development has changed international relations.

    Brazil is the first leg of Wu's three-nation South American tour, which will also take him to Uruguay and Chile. Enditem
