DAMASCUS, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem demanded on Tuesday an end of Israeli air and sea blockade in Lebanon in addition to preserving a ceasefire and full Israeli withdrawal from its smaller neighbor.

Muallem made the demand while meeting with a visiting Danishenvoy, Christian Hop, who is personal representative of Danish Minister for Foreign Affairs to the Middle East, the official SANA news agency reported.

The two sides discussed latest developments in the region, especially in Lebanon, in the light of UN resolution 1701, SANA said.

Muallem called on the Danish government to play its role to make the UN Security Council meet its commitments in establishing a just and comprehensive peace in the region, it added.

Meanwhile, Hop also had a separate meeting with Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal al-Meqdad in which he expressed his country 's interest to review Syria's perspectives regarding recent development due to its important role in the region.

Israel has been imposing an air and sea blockade in Lebanon since it launched massive attacks there on July 12 after the Shiite Hezbollah group kidnapped two Israeli soldiers in cross-border raids. Enditem
