China values ties with Benin

    BEIJING, Aug. 29 -- President Hu Jintao has met visiting Beninese president Thomas Boni Yayi. On Monday, the two leaders reached extensive consensus on how to consolidate and develop cooperative relations of equality, mutual trust and mutual benefit. Yayi is in China for a seven-day state visit.

    Hu Jintao praised the relationship between China and Benin. He thanked President Yayi and Benin's new government for their adherence to the One China policy. Hu Jintao said China is willing to promote governmental, parliamentary and party exchanges and expand cooperation in agriculture, infrastructure, telecommunications and energy.


    China will also help Benin train personnel and continue to send medical teams to the country. Hu Jintao also said China will continue communications with Benin on such major issues as poverty relief and UN reform.

    Yayi said the Benin government will unswervingly uphold the one China policy. He said he looks forward to attending the Sino-African Cooperation Forum in Beijing later this year.

    After the talks, the two sides signed a set of documents to further cooperation in economy, technology, agricultural equipment, medicine and culture.

    BEIJING, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- President Hu Jintao said here Monday that China was ready to enhance exchanges and cooperation with Benin to improve bilateral friendship.

    China and Benin had enjoyed healthy and stable relations since resuming diplomatic ties 34 years ago. "We are satisfied with it," Hu said during the talks with visiting President Thomas Boni Yayi of the Republic of Benin.full story>>
