The anti-terrorism television series "24" won three major prizes at Sunday
night's Emmy Awards in the United States, including best drama series and best
actor for Kiefer Sutherland.
"Every once in a while you'll have an evening that
just reminds you that you’re given too much and this is that evening," said
Sutherland, who, as agent Jack Bauer, has now saved America from terrorism five
times. "This experience on '24' has been nothing but remarkable for me."
It was his first Emmy win.
"What a nice evening this has been for us,"
Sutherland said, "My father is sitting over there," he added, acknowledging
Donald Sutherland, a nominee for the Lifetime Award for the miniseries Human
Trafficking. "We're going to have to have dinner together now," he quipped.
"Will & Grace" star Megan Mullally took home the
first award of the evening, winning the award for supporting actress in a
comedy. "Will & Grace" will finish screening the end of the year.
Alan Alda won the Emmy for supporting actor in a
drama for the role of Sen. Arnold Vinick in NBC's "The West Wing, " which went
off the air this year.
Alda's win was the 26th for the show, tying it with
"Hill Street Blues" for the most total Emmy's for a drama.
"The Simpsons" was named best animated show for the
ninth time.
Among broadcast network series, "24" won two Emmys,
as did "Boston Legal," and "The Amazing Race." Enditem
