BEIJING, Aug. 28 (Xinhuanet) -- Hollywood star Tom Cruise has been voted the world's  sexist celebrity at 14th Annual Ernie Awards in Sydney for his derogatory and sexist public statements.

Cruise won for a comment he made about his pregnant partner Katie Holmes: "I've got Katie tucked away so no one will get to us until my child is born."

According to contactmusic.com, Holmes has put her career on hold since she started dating Cruise and is currently raising their baby Suri at home.

Cruise's ex-wife Nicole Kidman had admitted earlier that she placed her career in second place to support his films and caring for the couple's adopted children Connor and Isabella.

About 400 of Australia's most powerful women gathered in the New South Wales state parliament late Thursday to decide on the winners of the 14th annual "Ernie Awards" which are handed out for the worst derogatory public remarks.

The Ernie Awards are named after a former trade union leader that also represented sheep shearers for his comment that women were not welcome in shearing sheds because they were only after sex.  Enditem
