Special Report: Iran Nuclear Crisis Iran replies to six-nation proposal
BRUSSELS, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- The European Union (EU)
would make a response to Iran's answer on the nuclear issue by the end of
August, EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana said here on Friday.
Telling a briefing after the EU emergency foreign
ministers' meeting, Solana said Iran's answer to the six-state package of
proposals is "over 20 pages" in length and it contains some "new elements," and
it would take time to study.
Solana said he would continue to talk with Iran's top
nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani "in the coming days," and he hoped that the EU
would make formal response by the end of August.
Earlier on Aug. 22, Iran presented a written response
to the package of proposals of the five permanent members of the UN Security
Council plus Germany. The United States later threatened to push quickly for
economic sanctions against Iran in the UN Security Council if it fails to heed
demands for a freeze of its uranium enrichment activities.
