Russian man gets 12 years in jail for spying for Germany

MOSCOW, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- A Russian man was sentenced to 12 years in prison by a Moscow court on Wednesday for trying to pass information on Russian missiles to German intelligence services, Russian news agencies reported citing the Federal Security Service(FSB).

The Moscow City Court convicted Andrei Dumenkov of "high treason in the form of espionage," the FSB was quoted as saying in a statement.

The FSB "was informed (in 2004) that Dumenkov had been seeking to buy state secrets and hand them over to representatives of German special services," the FSB statement said.

FSB officials later confirmed the links between Dumenkov and the German security service and found evidence of Dumenkov collecting information on state-of-the-art Russian missiles, the statement said.

Dumenkov was detained on Aug. 3, 2005 in Moscow and pled guilty during the trial. Enditem
