Special report: Thai deputy PM appointed caretaker PM
BANGKOK, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- The People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) of Thailand Tuesday demanded the police to take immediate investigation and arrest those who involved in the Monday clash between prime minister's supporters and opponents.
PAD, the main anti-Thaksin group during political turmoil early this year, said in a statement released by Thai newspaper the Nation that it will wait the police to catch the attackers for seven days, but if police failed to arrest them, PAD would then stage a big protest.
On Monday, when the caretaker Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra was opening an exhibition in Central World Shopping Complex of Bangkok, his supporters punched and kicked the anti-Thaksin people who gathered at the complex and yelled "Thaksin, get out," leaving four injured.
The PAD said the group would submit a demand to Police Chief Pol. Gen. Kit Wattana on Friday for police to find those who assaulted the peaceful protestors.
Meanwhile, Bangkok caretaker senator Wallop Tangkhananurak Tuesday expressed concern that the hostility and confrontation between protestors and supporters of Thaksin could lead to bloodshed like the massacre of student activists in 1976.
Wallop said the clashes on Monday were similar to the clash between ultra-rightists and student activists in 1976.
He said protestors should resort to using banners and signs instead of shouting. Enditem
