WASHINGTON, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- Katie Douglas netted
16 points as the Connecticut Sun advanced to the WNBA Eastern Conference finals
for the third straight time with a 68-65 win over the Washington Mystics at
Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT. on Sunday.
Lindsay Whalen added 15 points while Taj
McWilliams-Franklin contributed 12 points and 14 rebounds for the top-seeded
Sun, who swept the best-of-three first-round series, 2-0.
Alana Beard finished with a game-high 21 points and
nine boards for the Mystics while Nikki Teasley recorded 16 points and Delisha
Milton contributed 13 in a losing effort.
The Sun took over with a stifling defense in the
third quarter. Connecticut allowed just 10 points in the frame and opened up an
eight-point lead heading to the final quarter.
Beard's steal and subsequent lay up brought
Washington to within one, 66-65, with nine seconds remaining but Whalen answered
with a pair of free throws. Beard then missed a desperation trey with three
ticks left that would have tied it.
The Sun will face the Detroit Shock, who has
eliminated the Indiana Fever, in the Eastern Conference finals. Enditem
