BEIRUT, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad
Seniora on Saturday blamed Israel for violating a UN ceasefire resolution by
dropping commandos in eastern Lebanon.
"The landing carried out by Israeli occupation forces today in
the Bekaa was a flagrant violation of the cessation of hostilities announced by
the Security Council," Seniora said in a statement.
He said that he had complained to a UN delegation Saturday, and
would take up the matter with UN chief Kofi Annan.
The Israeli army confirmed that Israeli commandos carried out a
raid on a Hezbollah stronghold near the Bodai village in eastern Lebanon early
Saturday to prevent weapons from being transferred to Hezbollah from Iran and
Syria.
The army said that one officer was killed and two others wounded
in the raid.
It was the first Israeli raid deep inside Lebanon since a
ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah came into effect on Monday under a UN
Security Council resolution.
The truce ended the 33-day-long Israel-Hezbollah conflict, which
was triggered by the capture of two Israeli soldiers by Hezbollah in a
cross-border raid on July 12. Enditem
