BERLIN, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- Two German military airplanes have flown to the Jordanian capital of Amman on Friday to join international humanitarian efforts for Lebanon, the German Defense Ministry announced Friday.

The two C-160 Transall airplanes, one of which took off from a military base in Wunstorf, Niedersachsen and the other from Hohn Schleswig-Holstein, will transport humanitarian goods from Amman to Beirut.

Germany's humanitarian move took place as Chancellor Angela Merkel decided her country will not deploy any combat troops in the region, but provide naval security only.

Unlike military moves, humanitarian measures need no approval by the parliament in Germany. Millions of Lebanese have fled their homes after the war broke out between Israeli army and Hezbollah.

Germany now has around 8,000 soldiers participating in peacekeeping operations around the globe, including Afghanistan and Congo. Enditem
