DPRK blasts Japanese PM's war shrine visit

    PYONGYANG, Aug 16 (Xinhua) -- The official news agency of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Wednesday blasted the Japanese Prime Minister Koizumi's visit to the Yasukuni Shrine, saying such a move was designed to attempt to justify Japan's history of aggression.

    The visit attempted to "justify the history of the aggression and crimes committed by Japan against those countries in the past and honor the departed souls of the militarists," said the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA). 

U.S. media criticizes Koizumi's shrine visit

    NEW YORK, Aug 15 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. media reported widely on the protests against Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi's Tuesday visit to Yasukuni Shrine in Tokyo, which honors war criminals. saying the move has blemished his last days in office.

The Chinese language daily The China Press dedicated a whole page to the shrine visit. The headline, which came with a photo showing Chinese protesters outside the Japanese embassy in Beijing, slammed the Japanese Prime Minister's disregard of the feelings of the peoples of China and South Korea. 

Koizumi's Yasukuni  Shrine visit provokes reaction from victimized countries

    SINGAPORE, Aug 16 (Xinhua) -- An editorial in Singapore's Lianhe Zaobao said on Wednesday that Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi's visit to the Yasukuni Shrine on Tuesday was provocative to the countries, which fell victim to Japan's aggression during World War II.

There has been no doubt about the political and diplomatic sensitiveness of the Yasukuni Shrine, which honors Japan's World War II criminals, the article said, adding that an official visit by any Japanese leader represents the recognition of Japanese militarism.

    BEIJING, Aug 15 (Xinhua) -- Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi on Tuesday paid a visit to a notorious Tokyo war shrine which honors Japan's World War II criminals, arousing sharp criticism from home and abroad.

    It is his sixth visit to the Yasukuni Shrine since taking office in 2001, and its impact was heightened by its timing on Aug 15, Japan's World War II surrender day.

    The visit met immediately sharp criticism from some Asian countries, which endured great pain of Japan's aggression during the war.
