KABUL, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- Twenty one persons, all of them civilians, were wounded as rockets fired by suspected militants hit a house in Afghanistan's eastern Kunar province, an official at the office of Inferior Ministry spokesman said Sunday.

"Two rockets fired by the rebels struck a house in Shaltan village of Shigal district Saturday at 7:00 p.m. wounding 21 persons including some women and children," the official told Xinhua, but refused to be identified.

He attributed the attack to the enemies of Afghanistan, a term used against Taliban-linked militants, and adding, "Investigation is underway to identify the culprits, catch and punish them."

Kunar and the neighboring Nooristan province, the former stronghold of Taliban and militants loyal to former Prime Minister Gulbudin Hekmatyar, has been the scene of increasing security incidents over the past one month as three U.S.-led coalition soldiers were killed on Aug. 11 in Nooristan.

A similar rocket attack in Kunar months ago left seven school children dead while U.S. military attacks on Taliban's hideout also claimed the lives of some civilians in Kunar early this year.Enditem
