MADRID, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- Flights between Madrid and London returned to normal on Saturday, the Spanish Airport and Aviation Administration said, two days after Britain said it had thwarted a plot to blow up planes flying from Britain to the United States.

    Spain has intensified airport security nationwide and tightened security checks on flights bound for Britain and the United States, following the discovery of the foiled plot early Thursday. Passengers are barred from carrying liquids and gels in hand luggage.

    On Thursday, British Home Secretary John Reid said Britain had foiled an attempt to detonate explosive devices smuggled aboard as carry-on luggage on midnight flights from Britain to the United States. Twenty-four suspects have been arrested. Enditem
