Special report: Major UK Air Terror Plot Thwarted
ROME, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- The Italian police had arrested 40 suspects linked with the terror plot in Britain in a security swoop, local media reported on Saturday.
The Italian Interior Ministry said in a statement on
Friday evening that Italian police carried out a large scale of anti-terrorist
operation after Britain thwarted a terror plot to blow up aircraft in mid-flight
flying from Britain to the United States.
Italian police carried out the operation in 14
provinces across the country, including Rome, Milan, Venice, Florence, Turin,
Naples and other cities.
The police raids targeted places such as call
centers, Internet points and money transfer offices, and 114 illegal immigrants
were expelled from Italy, the ministry's statement said.
Italy has intensified security at potential terrorist
targets including airports and railway stations in the country, particularly
regarding structures linked to Britain. Enditem
