HANGZHOU, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Heavy rainstorms brought
by Typhoon Saomai will hit the coastal and southern parts of east China's
Zhejiang Province, the provincial meteorological observatory has forecast.
Heavy rains will hit Wenzhou, Taizhou, Ningbo and the
eastern part of Lishui in Zhejiang from Wednesday night till Friday, with winds
gusting 70 to 120 km per hour, said the observatory.
BEIJING, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- Packing winds of 126 kms
per hour, Typhoon Saomai, the eighth to hit China this year, is likely to slam
into the Chinese mainland Thursday afternoon or evening, meteorologists in east
China's Fujian Province said Tuesday.
Saomai, which is the Vietnamese name for the planet
Venus, is expected to make landfall near the north coast of Fujian Province and
the southern coast of Zhejiang Province Thursday, a spokesman with the Fujian
provincial meteorological station said.
BEIJING, Aug. 9 -- Guangdong may see more rainstorms and fickle weather
conditions brought by intertwining typhoons Saomai and Bopha, which are
presently separated by a mere 1,000 km, meteorologists said yesterday.
While Fujian Province, Guangdong's eastern neighbor, is
more directly exposed to attacks from the twin typhoons, heavy rains brought by
them may deal a new blow to Guangdong, which is still reeling from the
destruction caused by previous typhoons like Bilis and Prapiroon.
FUZHOU, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- East China's Fujian
Province is exposed to the attacks of intertwists of two typhoons, Bopha and
Saomai, as there is a distance of only 1,000 km between the two, local
meteorologists said Tuesday.
The meteorologists said Typhoon Maria and Saomai and
Tropical Storm Bopha, which are moving on the western Pacific, will influence
each other and vary their paths frequently, leading to uncertainties. Since
Wednesday, they may affect coastal areas of Fujian.
FUZHOU, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Tropical
storm Bopha, the ninth to hit China this year, is approaching China and may make
landfall in Fujian Province, according to local meteorological sources.
Bopha intensified into a strong tropical storm at 8
a.m. Monday morning. At that point it was located at latitude 22.5 north and
longitude 129.0 east, 850 kilometers from Taiwan's Taidong County. It was
gusting at 90 kilometers per hour and still gathering momentum.
