FUZHOU, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- East China's Fujian Province is exposed to the attacks of intertwists of two typhoons, Bopha and Saomai, as there is a distance of only 1,000 km between the two, local meteorologists said Tuesday.

The meteorologists said Typhoon Maria and Saomai and Tropical Storm Bopha, which are moving on the western Pacific, will influence each other and vary their paths frequently, leading to uncertainties. Since Wednesday, they may affect coastal areas of Fujian.

According to the provincial observatory, Bopha, which means a flower in Cambodian language, downgraded to low pressure at 2:00 a.m. Tuesday but intensified to strong tropical storm three hours later.

At around 6:00 a.m. Tuesday, the tropical typhoon was located at 450 km east of Taidung County of Taiwan Province, with a velocity of 18 meters per second near the eye. It is moving westward at a speed of 15 km to 20 km per hour.

Typhoon Saomai, whose Vietnamese name means the planet of Venice, was located at latitude 20.3 north and longitude 135.4 east, with a velocity of 35 meters per second near the eye. It is moving northwest at 20 km to 25 km per hour.

As Bopha and Saomai are approaching, local meteorologists said, the coastal areas of Fujian will expect rainstorms as of Wednesday. Enditem
