URGENT: Strong quake hits near Vanuatu

    LOS ANGELES, Aug 7 (Xinhua) -- A strong earthquake of 6.7 magnitude hit 77 kilometers from Santo, Vanuatu at 9:18 a.m., Aug.8 (2218 GMT Aug. 7), the U.S. Geological Survey reported on Monday.

    The depth of the quake near the Pacific Island nation in the preliminary USGS report was 149 kilometers. Enditem
