UNITED NATIONS, Aug 5 (Xinhua) -- The United States and France reached agreement Saturday on a U.N. Security Council resolution on the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon, U.S. Ambassador John Bolton said.
The UN Security Council is expected to meet soon to discuss the draft which will be likely adopted in the next couple of days, according to Bolton.
Bolton refused to comment on the text, but an official with knowledge of the document said the draft calls for a "full cessation of violence" between Israel and Hezbollah, but would allow Israel the right to launch strikes if Hezbollah attacks it.
Bolton and his French counterpart at the U.N. had been involved for the past few days in exclusive discussions on the France-sponsored draft that would call for an "immediate cessation of hostilities" and set conditions for a permanent cease-fire and a lasting political settlement. Enditem
