BEIJING, August 5 -- With United Nations diplomats promising a deal on a Middle East resolution in days, the US Ambassador John Bolton has met with his French counterpart Jean Marc de La Sabliere for further negotiations. Bolton said they are trying to act quickly, but must still consult with their capitals before proceeding.

Sabliere has indicated a deal would not be reached until the weekend. If and when they reach agreement, a UN Security Council vote could take place within 24 hours, possibly with foreign ministers. But the text is also being checked with officials in Israel and Lebanon.
