Special report: Tension accelerates in Iraq

    BAGHDAD, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- Two U.S. marines were killed in separate incidents in volatile Anbar province in western Iraq, the U.S. military said on Friday.

    The two marines, assigned to the 5th Combat Marine Battalion, were killed on Thursday due to "enemy actions" during operations in Anbar, the military said in a brief statement.

    The names of the victims were being withheld pending notification of next of kin, the statement said.

    More than 2,575 U.S. military personnel have been killed in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003, according to media count. Enditem
