Special report: Israel-Lebanon conflicts
BEIJING, Aug. 4 -- Israel's Defense Minister, Amir
Peretz, has ordered troops to ready themselves for an offensive that will push
control into Lebanon as far as the Litani River. Meanwhile, Israeli planes have
resumed raids around southern Lebanon. Beirut says the war has killed 900 people
and wounded 3-thousand so far.

Israel renewed airstrikes against suspected Hezbollah
targets in the battered southern Lebanese city of Tyre on Thursday. There were
no immediate reports of deaths or injuries.
Overnight Wednesday to Thursday morning, Israeli
aircraft launched strikes on 70 targets in southern Lebanon and Beirut. Several
facilities, including a petrol station, were destroyed.
Hizbollah fired 70 rockets into Israel on Thursday,
after showering a record 231 missiles the day before.
Israeli jets bombed Hizbollah dominated suburbs of
Beirut for the first time in days.
Israel is expanding the ground war in southern
Lebanon, where up to 10 ,000 troops were fighting Hezbollah.
One Israeli soldier was killed and four were wounded
on Wednesday. The death brings to 37 the number of Israeli soldiers killed in
more than 3 weeks of fighting.
It is believed that one third of the casualties in
the conflict were children under 12, and one million or a quarter of the
population in Lebanon have been displaced.
