BAGHDAD, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- A roadside bomb struck a police patrol in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul on Wednesday, killing a policeman and wounding three others, a police source said.
The attack took place early on Wednesday morning when a makeshift bomb went off near the police patrol, killing a policeman and wounding three others in a police vehicle, a source from the local Security Operations Center told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
Earlier in the day, three construction workers were killed and nine others wounded when a roadside bomb went off in a downtown Baghdad square, an Iraqi Interior Ministry source said.
The deadly incidents came after a day of bombings and shootings across Iraq, during which at least 38 people including 20 Iraqi soldiers and a U.S. soldier were killed.
The upsurge of violence is seen as a further setback for the Iraqi government's efforts to achieve security. Enditem
