KATHMANDU, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- The United States Mission to Nepal is providing 250,000 U.S. dollars to support drought-affected communities in 10 districts of mid-and far-western Nepal, a local media group's website reported on Wednesday.
The Kantipur.com quoted a press release issued by the American Center based in Kathmandu as saying that the aid will be provided, through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), to the United Nations World Food Program's Emergency Operation, which will airlift food to these remote districts to relieve the immediate need.
This program will provide a two-month food ration to 225,000 people in the affected 10 districts, where there have been insufficient rainfall for the last eight years.
"A lack of transportation infrastructure and years of conflict have exacerbated this situation, and there is almost no food available in the regions' markets. In total, more than 200,000 people are currently suffering from lack of adequate food supplies," the release stated. Enditem
