BANGKOK, July 24 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's Government Spokesman Surapong Suebwonglee insisted on Monday that the Thai Rak Thai Party leader Thaksin Shinawatra will contest the October 15 election as No. 1 party-list candidate.

Surapong said the condition for Thaksin to make a political break had changed because Thaksin promised only to take a break after the April 2 election.

He said Thaksin would become the next prime minister if the people still trust and vote for the Thai Rak Thai Party.

The King Bhumibol Adulyadej endorsed a royal decree on Thursday, setting a new general election on Oct. 15 since the Constitution Court nullified the April 2 elections two month ago. Enditem
