Roadside bombs hit US patrol in E. Baghdad

    BAGHDAD, July 22 (Xinhua) -- A roadside bomb went off near a U.S. military patrol in eastern Baghdad on Saturday, causing casualties, a police source said.

    A makeshift bomb detonated shortly after 9:00 a.m. (0500 GMT) on main road near Zaiyouna neighborhood, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

    "Our patrols reported that a U.S. Humvee was damaged and several U.S. soldiers wounded in the blast," the source said, adding that U.S. troops cordoned off the area.

    Earlier, another roadside bomb struck a U.S. patrol on Qanat Street in eastern Baghdad, but it was not clear whether there was any casualty as U.S. troops sealed off the area, police said. The U.S. military had no immediate comments on the incidents. Enditem
