    BEIJING, July 21 -- The ninth day of fighting in Lebanon has seen a new surge of Israeli attacks on Hizbollah's southern stronghold. Israel says two of its soldiers died in fierce fighting that also killed several Hizbollah operatives. And Israel continues to insist the Lebanese government take responsibility in stopping Hizbollah attacks.

    The Israeli Defense Minister raised the possibility of a ground offensive in Lebanon if Hizbollah attacks continue.

    "We have no intention to occupy Lebanon, but if we have to carry out operations to clarify that we reach every place - and if we have to carry out operations to prevail - we will do it without hesitation."

    Transport Minister Shaul Mofaz said he believes Iranian Revolutionary Guard soldiers are assisting Hizbollah.

    He also said Israeli attacks have depleted Hizbollah's fighting capability.

    Heavy fighting took place near the northern Israeli village of Avivim. An Israeli military source says one Hizbollah fighter was killed. Israeli media reported eight soldiers wounded.

    Israel launched attacks on the Lebanese town of Marjayoun, causing little damage.

    And in the Bekaa Valley, shelling hit several bridges near Rayak port.

    The Israeli army says Hizbollah guerrillas wounded three soldiers in the two clashes.
