Special Report: Israel-Lebanon conflicts

BEIJING, July 19 -- Israeli warplanes have battered Lebanon and killed 38 people, as more Hezbollah rockets hit northern Israel, killing one civilian. So far, the death toll from seven days of violence stands at at least 235 in Lebanon and 25 in Israel.

Israeli bombardment continued throughout Tuesday across Lebanon.

Nine family members, including children, were killed in an air strike on their house in Aitaroun village. Ten people were killed in the south and the Bekaa Valley.

The outskirts of the southern city of Tyre were again bombed. At least four people were wounded. Israeli jets also raided southern Beirut and the eastern city of Baalbek, where Hezbollah is known to occupy many buildings.

This is the area around Hezbollah's security headquarters in Haret Hreik neighborhood.

Israeli jets were also targeting trucks it suspects of carrying Hezbollah missiles.

Israeli police said six to ten Hezbollah rockets struck the northern Israeli town of Nahariya, killing one man and wounding several others.

Rockets hit Haifa, as well as the towns of Safed, Acre and Kiryat Shmona. The army says 750 rockets have hit the region near the Lebanese border since Israel's offensive on July 12th.

Hundreds of thousands of Israelis have taken cover in underground shelters.

In southern Lebanon, families drove north, waving white flags to avoid attacks.

Military helicopters ferried 120 Americans from the hilltop US Embassy in Beirut. Another 200 left on a ship chartered by Sweden to evacuate nearly 1-thousand Europeans. Around 180 Britons left on a warship.

The UN said it's pulling non-essential staff and family members from Lebanon, but relief workers will stay.
