Hu meets Putin, other world leaders in St. Petersburg

    ST. PETERSBURG, Russia, July 17 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao met here on Monday with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

    The two leaders exchanged views on deepening bilateral ties as well as major international and regional issues, according to Chinese officials.

    Hu congratulated Putin on successfully hosting the outreach session of the G8 summit, saying that the meeting is of vital significance to facilitate the relations between the North and the South, promote multilateralism and to tackle the common challenges across the globe. full story>>

    ST. PETERSBURG, Russia, July 17 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao and French President Jacques Chirac on Monday hailed the ties between China and France, pledging to boost bilateral cooperation in a wide range of fields. 

    The two leaders met on Monday afternoon after the conclusion of the outreach session of the G8 St. Petersburg summit.

    ST. PETERSBURG, Russia, July 17 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao met with Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi after the conclusion of the outreach session of the G8 summit on Monday.

    This is the first meeting between the two leaders after Prodi, a former president of the European Commission, won the election in Italy to head the Italian government earlier this year.

    Hu said that China values its ties with Italy, vowing to lift the bilateral cooperative relations to a higher level. full story>>
