    BEIJING, July 18 (Xinhua) -- A total of 82 Chinese citizens have been evacuated from Lebanon to Syria by Tuesday and most are on their way back home, Chinese Foreign Ministry said Tuesday evening.

    Some embassy officials have also been evacuated, but others will stay behind to pay close attention to the safety of those Chinese citizens who remain in Lebanon, the statement said.

    BEIJING, July 18 (Xinhua) -- Foreign governments have been scrambling to evacuate their nationals from Lebanon as the intense Israeli offensive in Lebanon entered its sixth day on Monday in the worst fighting across the border in more than two decades.

US orders warships to help evacuate Americans from Lebanon

    WASHINGTON, July 18 (Xinhua) -- The United States ordered five warships on Tuesday to help evacuate tens of thousands Americans from Lebanon, the U.S. Navy said.

    The Navy said in a statement that U.S. sailors and marines from the Iwo Jima Expeditionary Strike Group and the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit have been directed to assist in the authorized departure of American citizens from Lebanon.

Germany evacuates 300 citizens from Lebanon

    BERLIN, July 18 (Xinhua) -- More than 300 German citizens who evacuated from Lebanon arrived in the western city of Dusseldorf on Tuesday.

    Beirut international airport has been out of action since Israel launched military offensive last week.
