    Sweden begins evacuation of Lebanon Swedes

    STOCKHOLM, July 16 (Xinhua) -- Swedish officials began evacuating thousands of Swedes from Lebanon on Sunday morning as Israel stepped up its military campaign against Hezbollah militants there.

    Ten buses, each with 50 seats, have been requisitioned and will shuttle back and forth between Beirut in Lebanon and Aleppo in Syria, Swedish news agency TT reported.

    The Swedish consulate in Beirut and the embassy in Damascus are also trying to procure more buses. Full story>>

    MOSCOW, July 16 (Xinhua) -- Russia began evacuation of its citizens, as well as nationals of other countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) from Lebanon and the territories reporting to the Palestinian Authority, the Emergency Situations Ministry said on Sunday.

    An IL-62 jet of the ministry's transport fleet is due to leave for the Jordanian capital Amman at 09:00 a.m. Moscow time (05:00 GMT) on Monday, Irina Andrianova, the chief spokeswoman for the Emergency Situations Ministry, was quoted by the Itar-Tass news agency as saying. Full story>>

    CARACAS, July 16 (Xinhua) -- The Venezuelan government has begun to evacuate its citizens from Lebanon as Israeli attacks on Hezbollah militants continued, Venezuela's Foreign Ministry said on Sunday.

    The announcement was made as Israel launched missiles at targets across Lebanon, killing six people and wounding 33 others and heightening tensions between Israel and Lebanon after Hezbollah rockets struck new targets deeper inside Israel. Full story>>
