    Australia considers how to evacuate citizens from Lebanon

    CANBERRA, July 17 (Xinhua) -- The Australian government is considering how to evacuate citizens from Lebanon, either by road or sea, according to Foreign Minister Alexander Downer.

    Downer told Australian Broadcasting Corporation radio on Monday that there will be no Australian military option to evacuate citizens from the Middle East Country. Full story>>

    BRUSSELS, July 16 (Xinhua) -- Foreign ministers of the European Union (EU) are to meet here Monday to discuss the Middle East crisis and nationals evacuation.

    During the meeting, Javier Solana Madariaga, EU's foreign policy and security chief, would brief the ministers on his talks with Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Saniora in Beirut over the situation in the region.

    Over 100 Lebanese, mostly civilians, have been killed and hundreds more injured in Israeli attacks since Israel launched a massive assault in Lebanon after Hezbollah militia kidnapped two Israeli soldiers and killed eight during cross-border clashes on Wednesday. Full story>>

    LONDON, July 16 (Xinhua) -- Two British warships were dispatched toward the Middle East on Sunday to evacuate up to 10,000 British nationals from war-struck Lebanon.

    Foreign Office Minister Kim Howells told BBC radio on Sunday that the navy ships would reach the Britons in Lebanon by Wednesday or Thursday at the latest, noting that Britain was moving as fast as possible to rescue its nationals.

    Britain's Foreign Office has urged citizens not to attempt to leave the country, citing the dangerousness of the situation. Full story>>
