ST. PETERSBURG, Russia, July 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao met here on Sunday with Denis Sassou-Nguesso, President of the Republic of Congo, and Thabo Mvuyelwa Mbeki, President of South Africa.
Hu met with the two African leaders on the sideline of the G8 St. Petersburg summit. The three leaders came here to attend the outreach session of the G8 summit, to be held on Monday.
During his meeting with Sassou-Nguesso, Hu said the Republic of Congo is a trust-worthy friend of China, extending appreciation for Congo's adherence to the one-China policy.
Hu said both countries have vowed to enhance strategic cooperation, which symbolizes that the bilateral cooperation has entered a new phase. Full story <<<
President Hu calls on developing
countries to promote
cooperation

Russia, July 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao put forward three
proposals to strengthen cooperation among developing countries at the leaders'
meeting of the six developing countries on Sunday.
The Chinese president said that facing rare opportunities
of development, no country, especially those in the developing world, is immune
from grave challenges, such as widening gap between the North and the South,
more uneven economic development, rising trade protectionism and increasing oil
prices.
Therefore, Hu suggested fulfilling commitments and

Leaders of 6 developing countries
discuss South-South co-op
ST. PETERSBURG, Russia, July 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao and
leaders of other five developing countries met in St. Petersburg Sunday to
discuss ways to deepen South-South cooperation and advance international
development cooperation.
At the meeting with leaders from India, Brazil, South
Africa, Mexico and the Republic of Congo, President Hu is expected to explain
China's stand on promotion of South-South cooperation and international
development cooperation, said a Chinese Foreign Ministry official last week.
The official said that Hu will also brief the other
leaders about China's cooperation with Africa.
President Hu and the other leaders are in the Russian city
for the outreach session the Group of Eight (G8) summit scheduled for

Chinese president calls for more
efforts to help African countries
ST. PETERSBURG, Russia, July 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese
President Hu Jintao on Sunday called on the international community to pay more
attention to Africa's stability and development, and to further help African
countries.
In a speech at the leader's meeting of the six developing
countries -- India, Mexico, South Africa, Brazil, the Republic of Congo and
China, the Chinese leader said that Africa, home to the largest number of
developing countries, is an important force for world peace and development.
"Without stability in Africa, there will be no world
peace. Without development in Africa, there will be no world prosperity," Hu
said, adding that "the international community should pay more attention to
