Special Report: Israel launches
Gaza assault
New clash
between Israeli, Lebanese troops
GAZA, July 15 (Xinhua) -- Palestinian factions'
Follow-up Committee on Saturday called on Arab nations to begin negotiations
with Israel to swap three Israeli soldiers for Palestinian and Lebanese
prisoners held in Israeli prisons.
The committee made the call in a letter sent to the
Council of Arab Foreign Ministers which convened in Cairo on Saturday to discuss
regional pressing issues, especially Israel's ongoing attacks against Lebanon.
In the letter, the committee said that negotiations
must be sponsored by the United Nations to exchange two Israeli soldiers, held
by Lebanese Hizbollah, and a third one held by Palestinian militants, for
Lebanese and Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.
It asked the Arab foreign ministers to pressurize
international decision makers to put an end to the Israeli aggressions against
the Palestinians and Lebanon.
The committee also called on the Arab nations to
overcome their differences and take a united stance to pressurize the U.S.
administration and force it to reconsider its positions that are aligned to
Israel.
It called on the international community and the G8
summit held in Russia to stop Israel's military operations in the Palestinian
territories and Lebanon. Enditem
