Mexican govt confirms no president-elect decided yet

MEXICO CITY, July 12 (Xinhua) -- Mexico does not have a president-elect now, because the Federal Election Tribunal (TRIFE) has not yet ruled on the issue, Mexican Presidential Spokesman Ruben Aguilar Valenzuela said on Wednesday.

However, "as far as the presidency of the republic is concerned, there is a person who won the most votes, according to the count issued by the Federal Electoral Agency (IFE)," said Aguilar.

Calderon did win the most votes on July 2, Aguilar said.

Calderon, the candidate of the incumbent conservative National Action Party, beat his left-wing rival Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador by 0.58 percent, or a lead of 243,934 votes, according to the IFE's count published last Thursday.

Aguilar said that the demonstrations organized by Obrador, which are due to begin on Wednesday, will not polarize the society.

Obrador's legal team has asked a special court to change the result, handing over boxes of videos, documents and recordings, which Obrador said showed fraud in the July 2 election.

Calderon began on Tuesday to appoint a transitional team although he has not yet declared winner, which Aguilar said it wasup to the candidates to decide what they should be doing at present.

The TRIFE has to rule on Obrador's objections to the election result by Aug. 31 and declare a president-elect by Sept. 6. The winner will be sworn in on Dec. 1 to start a six-year term. Enditem
