BEIJING, July 12 -- President Hu Jintao says China opposes any action that may worsen the situation on the Korean Peninsula. He has asked all parties to act in a way conducive to the stability of the region.
Hu made the remarks while meeting with visiting Vice
President of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK, Yang
Hyong Sop, on Tuesday afternoon.
Hu said China is seriously concerned about new
complicating factors appearing on the Korean Peninsula.
He also called on the countries involved in the
six-party talks to overcome their current difficulties in promoting talks.
Hu stressed that China will work with the DPRK to
further implement the consensus reached by the two leaders, continue to enhance
bilateral cooperation in various fields and make new efforts to maintain peace,
stability and boost development in the region and the world.
Responding to Hu's views, Yang said the DPRK will
also work to safeguard peace and security on the Korean Peninsula and in the
region.
He noted the DPRK highly values its friendship with
the Chinese people and will continue to make joint efforts with China to further
boost bilateral relations.
The DPRK delegation came to Beijing for the
celebration of the 45th anniversary of the China-DPRK Friendship Treaty.
Besides his meeting with Hu, Yang is scheduled to
meet with Chinese top legislator Wu Bangguo.
