Special report: Israel launches Gaza assault    

    GAZA, July 10 (Xinhua) -- Al-Qassam Brigades, armed wing of Palestinian ruling Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) claimed responsibility on Monday for launching a homemade rocket at an Israeli military position in Sofa crossing, southeast Gaza Strip.

    The group said in a statement sent to reporters that the rocket attack was a retaliation for Israeli raids on the Gaza Strip, adding that the Israelis will be taught a lesson it will never forget in the strip.

    Al-Qassam Brigades, together with two other militant groups, has claimed the responsibility for the abduction of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit from an Israeli post two weeks ago in an armed ambush carried out southeast of the Gaza Strip.

    Fatah's military wing, known as al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, has also claimed responsibility for firing two homemade rockets at the Israeli town of Sderot on Monday.

    No injuries or damages were reported, according to Israel Radio.

    Meanwhile, Israeli troops arrested a Palestinian woman in the West Bank city of Nablus after storming the city at predawn on Monday.

    Palestinian security sources said that a number of Israeli army vehicles pushed into the city at dawn and searched into some houses before arresting a 35-year-old mother who has six children. Enditem
