Special report: Israel launches Gaza assault
GAZA, July 10 (Xinhua) -- A 27-year-old Palestinian was killed on Monday morning after an Israeli warplane fired a missile at a group of militants in eastern Gaza city, witnesses and paramedics said.
The witnesses said Jamal Arqan, who was mortally wounded with two other colleagues when a missile fired from an Israeli reconnaissance drone exploded near a mosque, died of his wounds later at a local hospital.
A few hours later, Israeli air force targeted a car traveling in the same area, wounding two people who were traveling in the car and a third bystander, added the witnesses.
Joma'a al-Aqaa, chief of emergency at Shiffa Hospital in Gaza City affirmed that one was killed and five were injured in the two separate Israeli air strikes on eastern Gaza City.
Palestinian security sources said that Israeli tanks have been stationed on the outskirts of eastern Gaza City since three days as part of "Summer Rains" that Israeli launched to free a captive soldier held by Palestinian militant groups.
In addition, a Palestinian baby, aged 15 months, died Monday morning of his wounds he sustained in an Israeli air strike at a house in southern Gaza Strip last month.
Monday's incidents followed several air strikes that targeted metal workshops and what Israel said was a weapon warehouse. Enditem
