HANGZHOU, July 8
(Xinhua) -- Relevant local departments in Zhejiang Province and Shanghai in east
China have been working hard to get locals well prepared as Typhoon Ewiniar, the
third to threaten China this year, is heading toward the offshore areas of the
two regions.
The Zhejiang Provincial Meteorological Observatory on
Saturday issued alarms twice against offshore typhoon and strong winds, warning
ships and boats to be aware of the Ewiniar impending and to return to harbors
ahead of the typhoon.
The eye of the storm was monitored to be at about 880
km east off Dinghai, an isle of the Zhoushan Archipelago in the East China Sea,
at 8 a.m. on Saturday and has been moving northwestwards at a speed of 10 km to
15 km, packing strong winds as it raced along.
It is expected the typhoon will approach the
coastline of Zhejiang Saturday night.
Affected by the typhoon, there would be strong winds
with force ranging from 9 to 15 in offshore areas of Zhejiang, according to the
provincial meteorological observatory.
And there would be torrential rains in Shanghai,
Zhejiang's close neighbor to the north, on Saturday.
The Shanghai Municipal Meteorological Observatory on
Saturday forecast Ewiniar would begin to affect Shanghai on Sunday and sent
forth orange color warning signal.
The municipal flood control headquarters has issued
an urgent circular, asking relevant organizations to be well prepared for the
advancing of the typhoon.
Typhoon Ewiniar formed on July 1 in the Pacific, east
