    BEIJING, July 7 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao Thursday inspected the headquarters of the General Administration of Customs (GAC)and held talks with customs officers on the reform of the administrative system.

    The premier was briefed by GAC commissioner Mou Xinsheng on the operation of the customs system.

    Premier Wen expressed his appreciation of customs officials for doing a good job in recent years, as indicated by the rapid growth in customs revenues.

    He urged customs authorities to make still greater contributions to the national coffer by collecting all the customs duties and tariffs.

    They should also continue their crackdown on smuggling to safeguard the security of the national economy and social stability, he said.

    Before coming to GAC, the premier also visited the national customs information center, where he talked on the phone with officers on duty at the Huanggang customs in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province in south China and the Khunjirap customs in Xinjiang region in northwest China. Enditem
