Special report: Israel launches Gaza assault

    RAMALLAH, July 6 (Xinhua) -- Israeli army arrested eight wanted Palestinians in the northern West Bank town of Tulkarem early Thursday, witnesses and security sources said.

    Israeli military vehicles and armored personnel carriers raided Attail neighborhood, arresting five people after breaking into their houses, three of them working for Palestinian security services.

    The Israeli troops also detained three people accused of belonging to the Islamic Jihad (Holy War) militant group in the same town.

    Meanwhile, Israeli military vehicles rolled into the West Bank city of Nablus, apprehending five Palestinians, including two policemen, Palestinian security sources said.

    There was no immediate comment from the Israeli side. Enditem
